QuakeMate is an earthquake-tracking app. We collect as little data as possible to deliver the service, never sell personal information, and do our best to keep what we do collect safe.
Summary
- You can use most of the app without an account.
- We never sell your data. Ever.
- We use a random installation ID for analytics — not a personal identifier.
- Push notification tokens are stored only to deliver alerts you ask for.
- If you submit a Did You Feel It report, what you write may be shown to other users near the same earthquake.
- You can request deletion of your data at any time by emailing us.
Data we collect
We collect only what we need to run the app:
- Installation ID — a random UUID generated on first launch. Not tied to your name, email, phone or Apple ID.
- Push notification token — required only if you turn on alerts; we store the token issued by Apple so we can send you push notifications.
- Device + OS version — the iOS version and device class (e.g. iPhone 15) for analytics and bug-fixing.
- Alert preferences — the magnitude / region / radius rules you create, so we know what to send.
- Coarse location (optional) — only if you enable location-based alerts. We use it to match earthquakes to your area; we don't track movement.
- Did You Feel It submissions (optional) — intensity, damage and observations you choose to submit. See below.
- Premium subscription state — if you purchase Premium, RevenueCat tells us whether your subscription is active. We don't see your payment details.
How we use it
- Send earthquake alerts and product notifications you've opted into.
- Match your alert rules to incoming earthquake feeds.
- Aggregate anonymous usage data to fix bugs and prioritise improvements.
- Show community reports near a quake (Did You Feel It).
We do not use your data for advertising profiles, behavioural ad targeting, or any kind of resale.
Did You Feel It reports
When you submit a Did You Feel It report we store the intensity, situation, observations and damage level you provided, along with the earthquake it belongs to and your approximate distance from the epicentre. Other users viewing the same earthquake may see your report content alongside others nearby. We never display your installation ID, IP address, or any personally identifying field. You can ask us to delete any submission by emailing us with the earthquake link.
Sharing
We don't share personal data with third parties for marketing. The only sharing happens with our infrastructure providers, listed below, who process data on our behalf.
Third-party services
- Apple Push Notification service — delivers push alerts. Apple receives your device token.
- Firebase (Google) — crash reporting and anonymous analytics. See Google's privacy policy.
- RevenueCat — manages in-app subscription state. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
- Earthquake data providers (USGS, EMSC, GSI, tsunami.gov and others) — we fetch public earthquake feeds. They don't receive any data from you.
- Vercel — hosts the QuakeMate website. They process standard server logs (IP, user-agent) as part of normal hosting.
Storage & retention
Data is stored on our servers in the EU and US. Installation IDs, push tokens and alert rules are retained as long as the app is installed; if you uninstall and we stop seeing the device for 90 days we delete the push token. Crash and analytics events are retained for up to 90 days and then aggregated. Did You Feel It submissions are retained indefinitely as part of the community-reports record, but you can request individual deletion.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR / CCPA / similar) you can ask us to:
- Confirm what data we hold about your installation ID.
- Delete your installation data, push token and alert rules.
- Delete specific Did You Feel It submissions you made.
- Export your data in a portable format.
Email contact@fil.technology from any address and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children's privacy
QuakeMate is not directed to children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, please contact us and we'll delete the associated installation data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. If we make a material change we'll bump the effective date at the top and, for significant changes, surface a notice in the app the next time you open it.
